I'm always in awe of women who go beyond the ordinary...those that step outside the box a bit and do what most folks would find too overwhelming to even attempt. Since March is Women's History Month, we thought we'd feature a few ladies who've tipped the scales and done some pretty remarkable things in our book. We've gone way back for our first woman of history.
Introducing....Mary Dixon Kies, the first woman in the United States to receive a patent. She invented a method for weaving hats with silk and stray...thus the stunning, head-turning hats we crown today. Back then (1809), women were obedient and submissive to their husbands and didn't dare make strides on their own. Imagine that!
In any case, we celebrate the beginning of fashion as we know it today, for beautiful brims of all shapes and sizes. Thanks Mary!
