I'm always happiest it seems in the summer. Three months of sun, surf and cookouts. Who could ask for more? I have my trusted arsenal of summertime stuff... straw bags, flip flops, Sun-In for the hair, scathing beach cover-ups and 5 year old sunscreen. Who knew that the $10 bottle of sunscreen wouldn't work after a couple of years? And why is it so expensive in the first place? American spend $680 million dollars on sunscreen products.
Well now the FDA says that sunscreen makers have to abide by some new rules, starting next year. Some of the rules are: (1). All sunscreens must have an SPF of at least 15. (2). They should list an expiration date and (3) they cannot claim to be water proof or prevent sun damage unless they contain certain ingredients.
So all these years of using my trusty dusty bottle of SPF 45, I actually thought I was getting the protection I needed to prevent skin cancer. Listen, I know the sun is harmful. But who can resist even-toned, glowing skin at least one season out of the year? Stay tuned to find out about the best brands. We'll do that right after a visit to the beach today.
