After months of contemplating whether I wanted to go natural or continue relaxing my hair, I finally made my decision while attending a natural hair event back in May 2013. I admired the health and condition of natural hair and also missed my natural curls as well. I was one that did not do well with perms and always wore my hair in a ponytail, so going natural was a smart choice. Prior to my decision, my last relaxer was in December 2012. During my transition I didn't plan to do the "big chop" ( a natural hair term for cutting off all the relaxer) but soon after seeing the tremendous new growth and viewing several naturalistas and their stories, I felt compelled in my heart to wait a complete year until I finally did the big chop; it was one of my best decisions ever. I will admit that when I finally did it on December 14, 2013, I did have mixed emotions, I questioned myself about my decision, and how others would react as well. But with the loving support of my family and my heart truly believing I made the right decision , I begin to own my new look, and I'm loving it. I encourage any woman that is thinking of going natural or at the stage of doing the big chop to take that bold step; you will feel absolutely fearless!
PS. The feedback was amazing!
