An extra pound here, another pound there. Over the last several months, somehow I managed to pack on 7 unaffordable pounds. I'm working out, not consuming an exorbitant amount of calories and trying to be mindful of getting my fruits & veggies in daily. Clearly and honestly, I'm frustrated. My discouragement could translate into a mental beat-down where I'm scolding myself about the billboard sized bulges that have now made me unattractive. Been there. Done that. Perish the thought!
The real truth is that being beautiful from the inside out means that my new wider curves don't translate into me being any less accepted, attractive or engaging. It's not my personality or spirit that tipped the scales. I refuse to imagine that people are staring and pointing at me saying, "Wow...look at her. She just put on 7 pounds.". Not. So, what are you telling yourself when you've experienced a little setback? How you choose to speak about yourself has everything to do with owning your beauty - inside & out. Let's face it - if you don't feel proud, loving, exuberant, luscious, beautiful - you won't act it either, right? You really need to see the glass half full. Fill up on the good truths about yourself and watch the glass spill over. So for the next several days practice this with me....... write down 3 qualities that make you unique, sexy and magnetic. Let those words be the only words you use to describe yourself. Beauty from the inside out is all about what pleases you and the other fellas eye. It's an energy, not a size. It's a spirit, not a size 6 shape. Watch what happens next!

We've all heard that early prevention for anything is more important than trying to repair damage later in life. Teeth, skin, nails and hair (those really visible features) really need extra care if we want to maintain good looks through the ages. And don't start thinking " it won't happen to me". Chances are, if you don't take care of your teeth now, they'll fall out later. Same with your hair. Get smart!
According to Dr. Zoe Draelos, MD FAAD, of American Academy of Dermatology,"It's important to understand that hair is nonliving and cannot be repaired once it is injured." As we get older, hair growth slows down and the cosmetic beauty of our hair decreases. Hair loss that occurs from continual hair breakage over the years is a serious cosmetic concern for many women, so the key is to prevent this damage by stopping the cycle of over-processing and over-grooming our hair and selecting hair care products with proven hair-health benefits." What to avoid in your 20's:
Be aware. Be smart. Be beautiful. I always enjoy attending Fashion Week event in NYC. It gives me a chance to see what fashion designers have been up to...which trends they'll be setting (or trying to)...how they use fabrics & colors and what I should try to imitate. Let's face it...most of what's being catwalked is waayyyy out of my price range, but a girl can dream, right?
At this year's Couture Fashion show at the ritzy Waldorf Astoria in NYC, the designs went from dignified to dowdy...cultured to costume-like and wearable to way-over-the-top. Here are my top picks. They exude bright and bold creativity. Enjoy. Exclusive Post by Guest Blogger, Karina of Beenalabella.

In between zoning out, gazing through the stained glass windows and checking email messages on my Blackberry, I did absorb a beautiful message during this past Sunday's sermon at church. The message I walked out of the chapel with was: seek and ask not for stuff, but for the beautiful spirit that will attract that stuff. We've all heard, for years that "beauty comes from within", "beauty is as beauty does", and all the rest of that yada yada stuff. Sounds good, but do we really get it?
This remarkable concept isn't about religion at all. It's about "me-ligion"- the power to feel good inside...the ability to ignore the haters in your life...the chance to change the color & size of your halo and dictate the outcome of the rest of your fabulous life. Perhaps you've fallen into a bit of a self-blaming game - you know...where the unwritten rules require you to always think the worst about yourself because of what you think other people think of you. Today, the rules change for you. In fact, they change right now. Ready to begin? STEP ONE: Repeat after me - I AM BEAUTIFUL PERSON. I HAVE A BEAUTIFUL SPIRIT. I ATTRACT BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE and SITUATIONS. I AM A BEAUTIFUL PERSON. Repeat that all day long. Write it down somewhere and say it all day long. Tonight you'll start to see a little growth where you've planted today's seed. Here's an eye opener for you: The cotton production industry,(you know that fluffy stuff that''s supposed to be the all-natural, attractively preferred substance), has some es-plaining to do. Oh, Lucy!?!
According to The Organic Trade Association (OTA), a nonprofit trade group representing America’s cotton commerce, the furry little balls happen to be one of the dirtiest crops in the world, due to the use of heavy insecticides and poisonous chemicals. They use a chemical known as: Aldicarb, which “can kill a man with just one drop absorbed through the skin". It's a very toxic insecticide widely used on POTATOES, SOYBEANS, PEANUTS, and citrus crops for the control of chewing and sucking insects. Mmmm.... Wonder if it has any effect on the absorbency level of cotton pillowcases - you know the bedding extras that tend to suck every drop of possible repairing moisture from hair and skin while you're catching up on a few zzz's. Gosh, I used to think there was something wrong with the oils and conditioners I was buying. Then it hit me! The products do work. I never gave them a chance because I allowed my cotton pillowcase to sponge them out. No thank you - cotton pillowcase...I'll stick to my satin pillowcase. ! I'd like to hang on to whatever "hey good looking" compliments I can get theses days. Pondering whether to ditch the cotton undies now. Nah! Yup, today's the 4th of July...Independence Day. I think we all know what this day historically represents to the nation, but what does it mean for you?
It was a tough question I awoke with this morning. Mmm..independence, freedom. In order to really get clarity on that concept, I had to think of the contrary word. FEAR. Wow. Clearly there are still fears that take my breath away. Fears that stomp my creativity and crush my ability to move up to that next level, where in my mind's eye - I'm always smiling, blissfully happy and making more money than I know what to do with. I'll bet my bottom dollar that I'm not alone here, right? So, what if today, we all vow to be free. I mean totally emancipated from at least 1 thought that's kept us paralyzed...stuck in the moment....unable to grab that damn dream. No more will we fantasize about what we want while making excuses for why it won't work. Today will be my own Independence Day. All day, I'll silently chant that I am NOT my circumstances. I am NOT my frizzy hair. I am NOT my enlarged caboose (butt)...I am NOT afraid. Today I am free. Happy Independence Day to you too. Ohhh.....I love the styles of the summer season....the strappy summer sandals, the floppy straw hats, the sheer alluring breezy dresses, the anything goes kind of look. I think it must be part of my rebellious personality that surfaces when it gets hot & sticky and day/night time plans are made, truly...at the last minute.
I also love the unstructured routine - including what I carry around in bag. This time of year, I toss whatever I can find, read or eat in my oversized straw tote/beach/office/date bag. I know what I MUST have with me everyday. What about you? Don't you just love all these neat freak guru's who give advice about how to organize your living space? Look, I know that a cluttered closet or bedroom makes for a messier lifestyle, but who's got time to rifle through an entire wardrobe in a day. Let's face it, you make the initial effort, figure you'll finish it up the following weekend and then...well you know what happens. I've been trying to figure out how to make my closet look like the one's in those magazines for years without having to spend an arm & a leg to do it right.
You've got to start somewhere! I began by really going through every piece of clothing in my closet and set a rule for keeping items or tossing them: If I didn't wear them last year or they didn't magically expand to fit my added inches, then they're gone. That's it. Next, I organized them by type (skirts, blouses, slacks, dresses, jackets, dressy dresses). Then within each type of clothing, I organized them by color. Wow! Now I can mix and match my outfits according to my mood and destination. This was just the start. Next weekend, I'll clue you in on what I've done with my handbags, shoes and accessories. Whatever you do, start the process. You'll feel better too.
