New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art is now hosting the Alexander McQueen collection. I must admit, I really didn't know a whole lot about his personal life, his extended talents or his vision. After seeing the exhibit, it was pretty clear that he had a very dark, almost deathly charm to his fashion designs...at least for the one's in the museum. After waiting in line at MoMa for nearly 45 minutes and getting herded through the line like human cattle, I was mesmerized by the design themes, the integrated use of fabrics and meticulous workmanship displayed on each and every piece.
The middle dress (shown above) was made of black leather, red pheasant feathers with vulture skulls on the shoulder. I've never seen anything like it. His work magnificently adorned clam shells, feathers, metal, glass medical slides and a whole lot more. He's been quoted as saying that he was enthralled with the grotesque and death. Just about every mannequins head was covered in a tight leather hood. No room for eyes, nose or mouth. Mmmmm..... A bit creepy, but brilliant.
Alexander McQueen was only 40 years old when he took his own life last year. It seems that a cloud of darkness overtook him before he actually ended his life.
Times are tough for a lot of us. I believe that there are signs and signals in our lives for what's about to happen. Recognize them. Don't dismiss them. If you're in NYC this summer, check out the exhibit. It's worth the wait.
