"Tis the season for giving and getting, right? I think Christmas is really for children. I mean, what do we really need? And what can you buy for an 89 year old woman who has everything and needs nothing?
As for me, unless you know what really turns me on, I'd rather your save your money and take me out to lunch. I'd kindly ask that instead, you skip the gift wrapped Christmas tree night light you think I'd enjoy... or the key chain that squirts hand sanitizer out when you turn the key...or the glittery sweater that deposits sprinkles all over my slacks whenever I move... or even the "cute" little hat that makes me look a little like, well, Bootsy Collins.
Don't get me wrong...I'm grateful to be thought of. But I often wonder when I get these "not so personal" gifts, if they were really purchased with me in mind or are something that the giver dug into the back of their closet for.
So, here are my gifting/ re-gifting rules:
All work and no play will truly make Jane a dull girl. My name's not Jane, but you get the point. The holidays are super busy and today I decided I really need a little play time. So this weekend...I'm off to tickle my toes and go dancing. It's been a while since I kicked up my heels. Forget about the party details...what's a girl to wear???
A quick look in my closet revealed a sorry sack of librarian looking clothes...nothing against our endeared bookworm citizens...it's just that everything I cast my eye on in my closet is a "no-no". Why is that? Because "they" say you can't wear white after Labor Day(and you even have to be careful about winter white). "They" say you shouldn't wear a statement necklace piece and a belt at the same time. "They" say in order to dress age appropriately, I shouldn't wear polka dots, show my belly button or wear super clunky heels. Guess that pretty much leaves me out of everything (not!).
So the $64 million dollar question is: WHO IS "THEY"?!?
We've become such an independent, almost selfish society, I can't believe that we still listen to "them" and succumb to cyber fashion rules that no one knows the origin of.
My protest starts this weekend and I've chosen my party outfit: a super confident attitude with whatever I'm clad in.
