Yesterday was ruled as a "Murphy's Law" day. Everything that could have gone wrong.....well, you know how it ends. Ever wonder why some days you're on and other days you're totally off? Listen, I know that I'm not really in charge of all the events that come into my life-despite what I tell the universe. I do know, however that I'm 100% responsible for the way I react to those events.
Everyone has a "bad" day. We're all entitled to at least one every now and then. But if that 1 day turns into 2 or 3...it's time to put the brakes on and examine what's happening in our lives. Could be something you ate...or that time of the month...or your surroundings. Whatever it may be, it's up to us to uncover the root of our anxieties. I know I'll thrive if I could just figure out WHY I got ticked off. Once I've determined that, then I'll know how to handle the outcome...the emotions...my behavior.
The next time you find yourself getting heated, do this:
The kick-start to my Monday work week, is watching Celebrity Apprentice on Sunday nights. I love the competition, the tasks and the talk. Well, last night 70 year old legendary singer, Dionne Warwick got the boot by Donald. Frankly I'm surprised that it didn't happen sooner. Being on this show was a huge eye opener for her and running a business the Trump way was like living in a foreign country to the R&Ber. Vocal and defensive, Dionne didn't know how to stand up for herself and in the end, asked to be fired. The Don doesn't like spineless quitters and relieved Dionne without batting an eyelash. Oh well.
Who's up next on the chopping block? My guess is....Hope. Where's she been and what's she done for the team anyway??? Tune in!
I'm not a big make-up wearer. I have a few simple staples that are a must in my book and one is : a real easy-to-apply eyebrow pencil. I've been using the Revlon Color Stay pencils for probably 20 years or more. They work for me. Each pencil is retractable and never needs sharpening. I love it!
I always keep 2 shades in my cache: (1) for the eyebrows: get a shade lighter to fill in sparce eyebrows and (2) a pencil that compliments your skin tone and isn't too harsh for the eye itself. I like the Brown or Black/Brown shade.
Creating that clean line across the eyelid gives shape and definition to the eye. Make sure you start your liner as close to the eyelashes as possible. There are lot more tricks to try. We'll cover those in session II. Happy lining, ladies!
I cant' help but think about how fortunate I am to be living today. So many folks around me have passed on and even more people are leading lives that they hate. Hate their job. Hate their spouse. Hate their co-workers. Now, I'd be misleading if I told you that everyday was like being in a rose garden, but I can make an attitude adjustment at any time. So can you. Today marks my 55th year of life and as I look back on my trials and triumphs, I realize that each of those situations were carefully orchestrated to bring me to this vital point in life. From here on, time is really precious. My plan is to live like there's no tomorrow, laugh like I'm 16 years old and love like it's the first time. Thanks to each of you who've helped make the journey exciting.
Don't you just love all these neat freak guru's who give advice about how to organize your living space? Look, I know that a cluttered closet or bedroom makes for a messier lifestyle, but who's got time to rifle through an entire wardrobe in a day. Let's face it, you make the initial effort, figure you'll finish it up the following weekend and then...well you know what happens. I've been trying to figure out how to make my closet look like the one's in those magazines for years without having to spend an arm & a leg to do it right.
You've got to start somewhere! I began by really going through every piece of clothing in my closet and set a rule for keeping items or tossing them: If I didn't wear them last year or they didn't magically expand to fit my added inches, then they're gone. That's it.
Next, I organized them by type (skirts, blouses, slacks, dresses, jackets, dressy dresses). Then within each type of clothing, I organized them by color. Wow! Now I can mix and match my outfits according to my mood and destination. This was just the start. Next weekend, I'll clue you in on what I've done with my handbags, shoes and accessories. Whatever you do, start the process. You'll feel better too.
Ok, so the smell of spring is in the air. I don't know about you, but I'm sick of carring around the extra weight of winter accessories and sludging through the day with heavy clod-hopper boots. I've already put up the gloves and am finally ready to pack the boots away until next winter.
You can also find some great sales on winter footwear... DSW Shoe Warehouse, Ideeli and Macy's have some awesome sales on boots going on now. Visit them online or in store now while you can before everything disappears!
Ok, so it's getting near the end of hibernation. The official sign of Spring happens this weekend when we turn the clocks ahead. That's the clue that it's time to freshen up your look. Let's start with a good pair of scissors and a keen eye for style. If you don't do anything else for yourself today....make an appointment to get the winter woolies trimmed. A great cut & style will do wonders for your attitude. If you've been around the mountain with your stylist and still aren't getting the results you're looking for....change stylists! It's time you get what YOU want. And sometimes, you just can't find one person to satisfy all of needs (sound familiar?). So, shop around and find the right person for YOU that cuts & styles your hair just the way you like it. Maybe you need a totally different person to apply coloring or straightening treatments. Get what YOU want and don't limit yourself based on your stylists limitations. Some stylists have been preforming the same ole services for the same ole clients for so long, they don't know how to do anything else! To get you started, make sure you pair the right cut with your shaped face and follow this guide.
Lucky Magazine just launched a kids magazine dedicated to moms with kid-friendly articles, tips and fashions for little tykes ages pre-birth to 12 years old. Lucky Kids hit the news stands yesterday with its premier April issue.
Almost 20 years ago, I was obsessed with taupe shoes. Seemed to me that they went with everything I owned. My friends could see me coming a mile away with those shoes. I really didn't care. I wore them with pride. Had them in at least 3-4 styles. All in taupe.
Alas! The new crop of spring shoes waiting to greet you at the shoe store door are...taupe...patent leather, strappy sandals or just plain ole' pumps. Maybe I should just hang on to all of my stuff so that I'll be ready when the styles come back around. I'd be one helluva fashionista if I had just stored my bell bottoms, platform shoes and afro pick.
Hadn't been to the movies in a while and decided this weekend to see what all the hub-bub was about regarding the King's Speech. The theater was still a packed house, Guess I wasn't the only late-comer to view this Oscar winning flick. My girlfriend and arrived a little late (ok, so it was the popcorn line that did it) and had to revert to the neck-breaking 2nd row from the screen.
I always seem to lose myself in the movie characters..you know try to take on their identities and pretend that I'm on the screen too. For me, the movie wasn't about the King's stuttering, but all about overcoming a fear. Gosh, doesn't that sound familiar?
Hmmm..... overcoming the stuff that people told us when we were younger. I realized how wasteful it is to be stuck in a spirit or a mindset that's really not ours, but someone else's. Eleanor Roosevelt once said something like: No one can make use feel inferior unless we give them permission. Always loved that quote because it reminds me of the power I have to accept or dismiss someone's opinion of me.
The King triumphed in the end, developed the confidence and courage to do what he had never been able to. Wow! What a lesson. If you haven't seen it already, it's a must-do in our book. I left the theater refreshed. My girlfriend did too after nearly 2 hours of snoring in her seat.
