Last week, The Today Show introduced a series about how comfortable we are in our own skin and about  embracing our imperfections. All the hosts, including Matt, Al Roker, Natalie, Samantha, Hoda & Kathie Lee talked about their awkward years and dealing with what God gave them in a positive light. I absolutely LOVE this concept to the max. It's all about been comfortable in your own skin and honestly liking what you see in your reflection. Today on the show, they featured No Make-up Mondays and invited viewers to post their own pics in a #Love Your Selfie series.

Pow! Reality Check #1 for me: As I get older, seems like everyday, I notice something  else on my face or body that's a little less perky, a little more jiggly or a bit more sparse. Hate the saggy jaws, crooked teeth, wiry hair....you know the drill - we can name a million things we hate about ourselves in photographs.

But that's not the point, people! The message here is clear to me. Turn  your imperfections into a thing of beauty, simply by changing the way we view them. Think about how many times someone told  you that you looked great and you said "Eeeyuuuu, I do?". Remember that we never see ourselves as others do.
So let's practice learning to love those slight imperfections - those areas that make us unique. Starting today. Upload your selfie or share a link to one right now and share it with us.

adding color to your life in winter

During yesterday's stare-off in the mirror, I couldn't help but notice how washed-out, pale and lifeless I looked. I know the summer bronzy-glow has long gone and my smile isn't quite as bright, but geez..I almost feel unrecognizable.  T o make waking matter worse, it's  snowing....again...and I can feel the ugly funk creeping back in my spirit.  This clearly cannot go on, people.  So today, I've decided to make a few purposeful changes to brighten these dreary, dull, cold, dark, gothic, underworld-looking, skanky (ok...went too far) winter days by adding colorful stuff to brighten my mood and ultimately, my spirit and face.

Here's my list of must-do's to kick the bust-blues:
  1. Made an appointment to get highlights for my hair. Adding a few lightened strands to the hair that frames your face can brighten up winter's skin & subtract years off your age.
  2. I've temporarily suspended all clothing that's either black or grey. The exclusive use of color sets the mood for happiness and a blazing personality switch.
  3. Orange, Red & Green Peppers - Cook & eat with colorful and flavorful veggies and fruits. Broccoli is great, but it's that same ole green you've been eating. Find a rainbow of other colored foods to add to your plate. Try: colored peppers, tangerines, red cabbage dishes, mango's and pink grapefruits.
  4. Brighten up your bedroom - Purchase a splashy bouquet of flowers and place near your bedside. Every time  you go in your room, you're bound to smell the fresh scent and marvel at their natural beauty.
  5. Here's a shameless plug - Sleep on a wildy,  intensely colorful satin pillowcase. Try one that matches absolutely  nothing in your bedroom....like hot pink or purple. You'd be amazed at how colors on your  bed(or under your head) can soothe, relax and revive that gray and ashy demeanor of yours.
